Data sources and provenance

Dividend Income Guide separates first-party evidence, normalized research datasets, modeled calculator inputs, and historical study assumptions. A number without a clear date or source should never be treated as a live quote.

Benchmark data was reviewed on 2026-08-20; the stock research set was reviewed on 2026-08-20. Observation dates differ because sources publish on different schedules.

Brazil remains on the older April benchmark snapshot because a newer directly sourced Ibovespa index dividend-yield observation was not verified in this review. The older date stays visible rather than substituting a proxy.

Yield and payout figures are dated observations, not streaming quotes. Five-year growth can be provider-calculated and may be affected by currency, special distributions, and corporate actions. Company declarations take priority for dividend timing.

Source hierarchy

  1. Company and fund first-party records: regulatory filings, investor-relations releases, declared dividend notices, annual reports, and official distribution announcements.
  2. Official market and government records: exchange notices, index-provider methodology, regulator publications, tax-authority guidance, and treaty text.
  3. Normalized research datasets: structured snapshots used to make market and company pages comparable. These are secondary to the underlying first-party record and must carry an as-of date.
  4. Modeled outputs: calculator and what-if results derived from explicit assumptions. These are estimates or historical reconstructions, not live market facts.

How common metrics should be interpreted

MetricExpected basisImportant limitation
Dividend yieldAnnualized, trailing, or indicated yield as identified by the dated source.Yield moves with price and source methodologies can differ.
Payout ratioDividend relative to the earnings basis identified by the source.EPS, cash-basis, free-cash-flow, and REIT payout measures are not interchangeable.
Dividend growthHistorical dividend-per-share growth over the stated period.Corporate actions, currency, special dividends, and cuts can distort simple comparisons.
Ex-dividend/payment dateDeclared company or market-calendar event.Dates can change; official company or exchange records are authoritative.
Tax/withholdingCountry rules, treaty provisions, residency, account type, and instrument structure.Tax treatment is highly situation-specific and must be verified with official guidance.
DRIP/what-if resultHistorical prices, dividends, and the reinvestment assumptions stated on the study page.Historical reconstruction is not a forecast and may exclude taxes, fees, or intraday execution effects.

Market and country pages

Country guides use structured market profiles, benchmark context, sector notes, and dividend-investing education to explain how each market differs for income-focused readers.

Company and stock pages

Stock pages are built around normalized company profile data, dividend characteristics, payout context, and educational interpretation. They should not be treated as live brokerage quotes.

Calculators

Calculator results are based on user-entered assumptions and published defaults. Outputs are estimates intended to make tradeoffs easier to understand, not guarantees of future income.

What-if studies

Long-run studies use historical dividend and price assumptions to explain reinvestment outcomes. They are case studies and should be read with the risk disclaimer and methodology page.

Verification and corrections

If a published figure conflicts with a current first-party record, the first-party record wins. Readers can report a discrepancy through the editorial contact listed on the About page. Corrections should update the visible review date only when the underlying content or data was actually re-verified.
